Malu De Martino
Malu de Martino is a Brazilian film director, writer, and editor born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1960. The 58-year-old is best known for her films "So Hard to Forget" (2010), "Margaret Mee e a Flor da Lua" (2012) and "Mulheres do Brasil" (2006). According to an interview she did with Kate Lyra, Malu de Martino focuses on visual arts within her films, and combines both documentary and fictional techniques. She has been influenced by Cinema Novo, a genre and movement of film noted for its emphasis on social equality that rose to prominence in Brazil during the 60s and 70s. However, she identifies more closely with 'Auteur Cinema,' or a theory of filmmaking in which the director is viewed as the major creative force in a motion picture.
