Yuan Xiaochao was born on August 7, 1988 in Yuncheng, Shandong, and is the nephew of the famous martial arts athlete Yuan Xindong. He has been passionate about martial arts since he was a child and has a very high martial arts talent. He started to practice martial arts at Songjiang Martial Arts School at the age of 10, and then trained in the martial arts team of Changzhi City Sports School in Shanxi Province.
