Anne lives in a small village in Brandenburg, ready to snap at anyone who crosses her. Her husband has long since passed away, she’s fallen out with the village, and her daughter drove her away years ago. She’s built walls of protection around her heart that are meters high. If no one is there, no one can hurt her—that’s the motto Anne has adopted. Then eight-year-old Tilda shows up at the door, in need of a new home.
